Since we've moved to South Carolina I have just a "little" more time on my hands since we have no family or friends here. Not that my three kids really give me a lot of "extra" time anyways. I find myself everyday looking for new projects on pintrest, or at least ones that I can recreate and blog about.
Being that my husband is a chef and I'm an avid baker our pots, pans, and bakeware tend to take a beating from us. I've already come to the conclusion that there is no saving the lives of my pots and pans. They just need to be bought new. I however, do feel that I may be able to save my cookie sheets and muffin pans. Yesterday as I was scouring for new ideas, I found a blogger who said she used hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to clean her cookie sheets. She didn't even need to scrub them. She just let them sit for about two hours and let the two ingredients work their magic. If she can do it, then there is hope for me.
First I started by applying the baking soda just as the other blogger did. Second I added the peroxide, then finally more baking soda. I mixed the two together until it formed a thin paste. On my larger cookie sheet I immediately started seeing some results. The grime from "unscrubbable" food was beginning to loosen.
I waited over two hours and this is what it looked like when I came to check on them. Almost a little foamy.

Above you can see bubbles forming and small food particles surfacing.
I took a metal spatula to get any loose debris off. Washed them with soap and water. As you can see this pan had its fair share of grime build up.
My larger cookie sheet came out looking a little shinier. The burnt spots didn't go away but I feel better knowing that the grime is gone.
My Conclusion: Although my pans obviously didn't come out as nice looking as "One Good Thing by Jillee", I did do a couple things a little different than she did. 1. From the looks of it I didn't use as much baking soda as she did (running low). Her pans had a thick coating of baking soda and peroxide. 2. She used the mixture on the back of the pans not the front. I'm not sure if that would make a huge difference or not. The backs of my pans are actually pretty good looking in comparison to the front. 3. Her pans are actually stainless steel where as mine are aluminum. That also makes a huge difference. Overall though, I'm happy I did it. I now know that although I think my pans are clean they are actually not, and they do look better than before so it wasn't a total loss.
Next time I'll try to have a stock of baking soda on hand and use more to see if the outcome is even better!!
A FOR EFFORT!!
