Fun Edible Valentine Goodies

I've really never "celebrated" Valentines day. Maybe because I never really had a good reason to celebrate it? Since having my wee wittle babes, (and of course being married to my wonderful Mark) I feel like I have a great reason to celebrate. After all, Valentines day is supposed to celebrate love right?

Last year the boy's and I made an "American Sign Language I Love You Valentine" for my mom. They were very creative and loved every minute of it. (I love you Valentine tutorial) I have a few more craft ideas in mind for this year, but for now though, I want to post some ideas I got from Pintrest. Some EDIBLE Valentines. Emmm, my favorite! The best thing's about these ideas are the fact that the little ones can help make them. Some we have even tried in the past.

1. Life in Wonderland blogged about these wonderful little fruit cut outs. Just simply take a cookie cutter and let the kids cut out some heart shapes with the fruit. How simple is that? Then to make thing's even for fun let them skewer them. My kids and I have done something similar except with some other cookie cutters. They loved it.

2. Next I found this link to Parenting.com which suggests making ice cream sandwiches. It doesn't go into great detail about it, but I personally think it would be fun let the kids bake some cookies. After they have completely cooled take a scoop of strawberry ice cream and sandwich between two cookies. Then as the site suggests roll the edges in some sprinkles. Wrap in parchment paper and tie with what you have on hand. We have also made ice cream sandwiches before but never for Valentine's day. This would definitely be a fun activity. Just let them be creative!

3. This is another idea from parenting.comPlace pink candy melts (or white chocolate chips with a dash of red food coloring) in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 1 minute. Remove from microwave and stir to melt completely. Using a spoon, drizzle the candy melts over a large bowl of popcorn; add sprinkles. Allow to cool for 5 minutes, or until melts have hardened. Break up any large pieces before serving. I don't know about your kids but my kids love popcorn. We will definitely be making this, this weekend!

4. How about some Sweet Heart Brownies? I say yes, mam! This is easy peasey. Just bake your favorite brownie recipe and use cookie cutters to cut out some Valentine shapes. See, easy!

5. I don't know any kids out there that don't like rice krispy treats, do you? These can be messy but I think it's totally worth it. You can do many different thing's with rice crispy treats. You can of course make the normal treats or you can add a dab of food coloring to make them pink. You can add sprinkles. You a use a different type of cereal like fruity pebbles, or fruit loops. Cut them into heart shapes.

Whatever you end making for your special Valentine's day goodies Enjoy and make them exciting and creative!!
