About 2 weeks ago Mark was mowing the grass when he ran over an area that started to move. We weren't sure what it was but after removing a small amount of hair it appeared that we had a nest of mice in the backyard. It looked like there were at least 5 babies. A couple days later we went out to take another look and they no longer looked like mice. They looked more like baby moles.
Then on Sunday my mom had went outside to let the dog out and noticed something laying next to the nest. It was a dead baby, but not a mouse. Little baby bunnies. Mark found another dead baby a little farther away from the nest. Both looked to be the bigger babes. There was one left in the nest and it was still alive, Mark scoured the grounds to see if we could find anymore and he did. He found one more baby alive and we carefully placed it back into the nest and covered it back up with as much nesting material as we could find.
We weren't sure if momma would come back to the nest or not since the nest had been disturbed, Last night though, my mom happened to look outside and there was momma laying on top of her nest. My heart feels relieved that she's still coming around for them. Mater Moo is eager to forge out into the backyard without a leash, but I'm determined that these babies will live and leave with their momma. So far so good!
UPDATE: Only one baby survived, and it has left the nest with momma! 4/11/16
