Welcoming Aidan Nathaniel- 5 Months Later Part 3

ATTENTION- Some of the photos in this post may contain blood and the beauty of breastfeeding

We happened to get free tickets into the Coastal Carolina Fair and decided to take the family there for a one last day before out little mister arrived. It was going to be a long day since we had trick or treating to do later that night.

They all had so much fun!

Until Landen got bit on the chest by that little pony. He did get a free cowboy hat and a free ride on the elephant though.

We spent a good 3-4 hours there walking around. It got pretty hot. We were all struggling in the heat. Finally it was time to head home and start getting ready for Halloween.

PETER PAN

I walked that entire neighborhood. Waddling to and fro. My legs hurt so bad when we got home. My feet were feverishly swollen. It was a long long day.

At about 1:30am I woke up with bad back pain. I got up and walked around a bit. I got back on the bed and woke Mark up. I was feeling a lot of pressure. He turned on the light and I sat at the edge of the bed when all of a sudden I felt a gush. There it was, my water had just broke. Mark jumped up and went into action. He threw on his clothes as fast as lightening and ran downstairs to wake my mom and dad. The contractions were much much much stronger now. Mark gathered my bags, and helped me into the car. About every 4 minutes or so I would have a contraction, while my mom held my hand from the backseat.

We arrived to the hospital emergency department and Mark went flying in to get a wheelchair. My water was just everywhere. Slightly embarrassing as the boy behind the chair pushed me up to Labor and Delivery. Once I was there though things went smoothly. I could barely walk from the pain.

I waited as long as I could, but that little button was my saving grace. The epidural didn't work right away. It only took to half of my body. So about every 10 minutes or so the nurse would roll me to the other side. That helped a lot and the epidural eventually took to my whole body.

My poor momma was so tired. Well we all were, but MUSC didn't have good coffee for her.

Mark never left my side.

Aidan Nathaniel Hammel
born at 11:05am
7lbs 6oz, 21"long

He's the first baby that I was ever able to breastfeed right away. This was everything I had ever wanted. We enjoyed skin to skin with each other for about an hour before they moved me to our new room.

Daddy holding him for the first time.
I did skin to skin as much as I possibly could.

He was just so perfect. My heart was so full.

The kids fell in love with him as soon as they met him!

Just love at first sight. In this moment Carter looks at him and says "thank you mommy".
