Sharks and Mermaids

Wow, this past month is almost a blur. There has just been so much going on, I've barely had time to catch my breath. For some God forsaken reason I decided to have Carter and Kayla's birthday party at our house instead of the park like we did last year. I've continuously worked on the decorations for this party for over a month. I practically made everything myself. Dollar store decorations were turned into pretty floating jelly fish. I traced and cut out about 50 or more mermaids, sharks, and sea creatures. The house was turned into an underwater wonderland.

The cat and I were on really bad terms for the whole week before the party. I put up decorations and he would tear them down. By the time the party came around I was putting seaweed back up on the walls for the third time and the cat had serious stink eye from his momma.

The day before the party, Landen's class was having a Mother's Day celebration (there will be a blog about this too). It was adorably cute, but it drastically cut into my baking time. I baked off 24 cupcakes, a blue round cake and a pink round cake. I made 24 white chocolate sea creature molds, made 24 4oz cups of blue jello, and cut out 24 mermaid and shark tails for said blue jello (not pictured). Mark brought home tons of toppings for homemade pizza. He ended up making a total of 10 pizzas, and all but about 2 of them were eaten.

Beyond the underwater wonderland, was the fun to be had by the kids. We had a total of 19 kids, and 13 adults come to the party. 9 kids that had rsvp'd didn't make it to the party. It would have guaranteed no left over pizza for sure! The kids had water guns, water balloons, and a trampoline. There was laughter, screaming, running, and water everywhere.

Remember that brisky walk on the beach we went on in April? We collected sea shells for the kids to paint at the party. Of course the girls are the ones who mostly partook in the fun!

It wouldn't be a party without singing Happy Birthday now would it?! (A funny side note- We were all in the middle of singing and I realized my camera wasn't recording. So I waved my hands around and made everyone stop singing. I hit record and we were good to go-AGAIN)

All in all, it was a very exhausting but very FUN day. It was worth all of the labor and time spent on it.
